For the past few years, a Diversity Reception has been held during the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Convention to promote and celebrate diversity in the shopping center and retail industries. With the growing success of the event, ICSC was looking to bring the reception to a larger audience throughout the year in the US and abroad with the help of Shearman & Sterling LLP, the event sponsor.

To help brand the reception, a logo was designed to appear on all print and web collateral. This meant that it would need to be flexible, readable, and scalable for use on large banners to invitations and websites.

The Diversity Reception logotype is displayed in two weights of Quicksand, created by Vincent Connare in 1996. This font was selected for its modern, professional appearance and clean lines. In selecting the color palette, I used orange and brown to communicate energy, warmth, earthiness, friendliness and dependability to capture some of the personality of the event and individuals who attend.

The Asia based textile company, Zhonghe, opened a New York office to better assist its overseas clients. For its start, the new office needed business cards and an informational card bearing the company’s already existing logo. The graphic that was created on the front of company bio is reminiscent of spooled thread. Subsequent work included additional stationary items and announcements for textile shows in the US and Paris.

Shearman & Sterling LLP is committed to being a responsible member of the global community and doing as much as it can to protect the environment. To achieve this, the firm rolled out an internal campaign to educate and promote an eco- conscious attitude across all its offices. The firm needed a logo to stand behind their commitment and resonate with the audience. Significant research was done with regards to the name for the initiative and a logo that could work with the firm’s brand that was already in place. The resulting eco logo appeared on various internal collateral and the firm’s intranet site as part of this initiative.

When Garrison Architects created a modular division “SIMPLE” an acronym for Scalable Innovative Modularly Produced Living Environment, they wanted stationary to go with it as part of the larger marketing initiative. The short-run letterhead and business card were both designed for in-house printing and to compliment the firm’s existing line of stationary, while using the modular building system as inspiration.
